Destinee Monroe - Destinee Monroe Makes Waves!

at 8:17 PM 0 comments

There is a new starlet making her way onto the scene in South Jersey, and on Saturday evening she serenaded the outdoor patio at Mystic Islands Casino in Little Egg Harbor. Her name is Destinee Raé Monroe, and she is no stranger to stardom.

After taking a hiatus from touring as an international pop sensation, Monroe has undergone a rock ’n’ roll rebranding and reemerged on her home turf.

Originally from Egg Harbor Township, Monroe moved to California at the young age of 12 to embark on her musical journey in a girl group with her younger sister, Paris. The “tweeny-boppers,” as she described, turned down a deal with Disney. Monroe said laughingly, “At 12, we wanted to be taken more seriously!”

The girls went on to be signed to Interscope Records with Jimmy Iovine, where they recorded over 150 songs. They recorded one full album with producer RedOne, who produced such artists as Lady Gaga.

One of their biggest highlights was performing in 32 European cities as the opening act for Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale tour in 2011.

“It was definitely a whirlwind,” Monroe recalled. “I was so young at the time, and it all happened so fast. It really was a blur.”

However dizzying the experience was for the then 17-year-old, Monroe said she felt considerably welcomed by the entire team. “All her (Spears’) dancers, roadies, tour staff … everybody was so warm,” she said. “They made the tour feel like home.”

Spears herself treated the Monroe sisters with kindness. “She greeted us backstage and said, ‘I love y’all’s outfits!’ in her Southern, Britney accent,” Monroe remembered fondly.

When not on stage, according to Monroe, Spears was rarely seen without her Ugg boots on. So the girls gifted her with black sequin Uggs as a gesture of gratitude. “Next thing you know, we saw a photo of her wearing them in Brazil,” Monroe said, laughing. “It’s 85 degrees, and she’s wearing her sequin Uggs!”

After eight years, Monroe left her record label when the chairman moved to a different company. “I moved home and decided to be a little bit normal for a while,” she said, explaining she had become jaded with the pop music industry. Her sister stayed on the West Coast, and Monroe ventured home to Jersey, where she now resides in Little Egg Harbor.

This spring, she was hired as a server at the Hard Rock Casino in Atlantic City. Not long after, she met performer Journey Blue Heaven, better known as Journey. Right around that time, Monroe was considering purchasing an aquamarine guitar, and Journey encouraged her to pull the trigger.

“We got to talking about music, I bought my blue guitar, and next thing you know, Journey says, ‘By the way, I have an audition for Joe Loupo.’” Journey asked Monroe to attend the audition with her, as a duo act.

“I didn’t know many covers, and I had to learn three songs in two days,” she said.

The audition was on a Friday, so, that Thursday, the two women, who have dubbed themselves Journey To Destinee, decided to attend Jimmy Brogan’s open mic night at the MICA Club, in the Mystic Island section of Little Egg Harbor. They were warmly received, and Monroe was approached by Brogan, who asked, “Where have you been hiding?”

The duo nailed their audition, and were approved to perform at the Council Oak Lounge in the Hard Rock Casino. Alas, the next day, COVID-19 shut down the shore.

“It was like the perfect storm,” said Monroe, who accepted quarantine as an opportunity to learn as many songs as she could, as fast as she could. “I remember my parents always saying ‘preparedness is key!’”

Though she started her career as a pop singer and dancer, she explained it was the band Green Day that inspired her to pursue music. Furthermore, Monroe’s father, a guitarist himself, brought his daughters up on such legendary performers as Yes, Cream and David Bowie. Being from Woodstock, Journey has rejuvenated in Monroe a love for classic rock, so Monroe used quarantine to become versed in all of the classic hits, many of which she performed at Mystic Islands Casino on Saturday night.

Her experience performing before thousands certainly has translated well into her new persona, as she delivered seductive, punchy renditions of classic rock hits from the likes of Van Morrison, The Beatles, The Eagles and Tom Petty. That is not to mention her tremendous pipes, which sent chills reverberating across the audience. Her stage presence is a force to be reckoned with.

Once outdoor dining was permitted in July, Monroe was prepared to jump right into performing. In addition to performing with Journey, she also debuted as an impromptu duo act with Jimmy Brogan in August. Though the two had never performed together before, their collaborative energy was so natural that audience members were asking them how many years they had known each other.

“It felt like we’ve been playing for years,” she said.

Monroe shared heaps of gratitude for Brogan’s generosity. “Some musicians can be very territorial,” she explained. “Jimmy is so welcoming and supportive of local music.”

When asked about original material, Monroe explained, “Every now and then, a song will just pop out of me.” But after her extended hiatus, she is taking her time and working on her stage appeal as an East Coast rock ’n’ roller. “I’m just getting my sea legs and trusting in God that it’s all going to work out.”

Monroe will resume her residency with Journey at Hard Rock on Oct. 10 from 8:15 to 11 p.m. at the Council Oak Lounge. She will return to Mystic Islands Casino with Brogan on Oct. 11 from 2 to 6 p.m. Fans can stay up to date with Monroe by visiting Facebook: @Destinee Monroe Music, or Instagram: @destineemonroe.

Paris Monroe - "IT IS COMING. You WILL hear it, no matter what!"!

at 10:00 PM 0 comments

parisqmonroe: Let’s get to know each other a little bit better. Selfies aside. I get asked a lot, when am I going to release music? Or what’s taking so long? I just wanted to take the time to show a little transparency, as it is something I’ve come to crave more and more in my life. In a world where fiction and reality seem to have a blurred line, I want to live and express myself more honestly. Many of you don’t know about my musical journey. I’ve been in love with music since I was born basically, no exaggeration. My parents grew up in the most musical eras... my dad is an incredible guitarist. I’ve been engulfed in it my whole life. I’ve been in two girl groups with my sister, got signed to Interscope Records when I was 11 years old, touring the world instead of being in school. I’ve been through trials & tribulations, more than anyone aside from my immediate family know about. Now I don’t want to focus too much on the past. I embrace it, it’s shaped me, I wouldn’t be where I am right now without it... but let’s talk about NOW. I AM working on a record, HAVE been for a long time. Been involved with lots of people! Some who were blessings, some who were lessons! Some who wanted to take advantage of me. I’ve turned down multiple opportunities that some would consider me CRAZY for saying no to, but I’ve waited so long to fulfill this LIFELONG dream that I didn’t get to do my way for the first half of it. And now I’m in this position where every move is thoughtful. I care so deeply about it and I just wanna do it RIGHT. I believe with God on my side, the right doors will open that will be lasting, and be aligned with who I truly am. Not a fake version, I think people are sick of fake. I write my own music, some people don’t like that. That’s ok I don’t like that they don’t like that. This business is filled with ego, politics, and darkness but I choose to be a light wherever I can. When MY art is ready to surface, it WILL emerge. Even if I have to put it out myself, I will. I have been so blessed with incredible supporters who believe in me. That, I am so grateful for. IT IS COMING. You WILL hear it, no matter what! 🎶✨❤️🕊 #SoulNotForSale

Paris Monroe - Attention Lady Gaga Fans!

at 7:30 PM 0 comments
Little Monsters: since I keep getting a million questions, I wanna clarify that I did cut Nothin On But The Radio before I knew Gaga's version had already leaked online. As a songwriter myself, I wouldn't normally cut a demo but like many of you I fell in love with the song. I obviously wouldn't release a record that has already been out there online, I'm working on my own records for this year. I have known Gagz since I was 11 on Interscope (got signed the same week), have worked with maaany of the same people and I was one of the very first monsters that ever existed.. So we're all good in the hood. That's all I'll say! Thank you darlings, plz update that forum

Destinee and Paris - Finally Speaking Up About Solo Plans!

at 3:43 PM 1 comments
ParisMonroe: OPEN LETTER. Unfortunately I don't have a slideshow, or a story, or too many incredible memories for 2013 like you would expect a 17 year old to have. The past 2 years have been difficult but it has allowed me to grow within my own mind and realize who I am and why I'm here in the first place. Yes I always put on a front because that's the kind of person I am. I'll always smile even if I'm broken on the inside. I've smiled and laughed through a lot of pain and confusion, but it has been a season I believe God has allowed me to experience to build character. I feel like I've been in a cocoon, isolated for quite some time. The wisdom, knowledge, and fearlessness that I'm stepping into in a new year with makes me feel truly unstoppable. People always ask me, "what happened?" "What are you up to?" "Are you still singing?" "Did you quit?" It honestly makes me cringe, because I can't be honest and I hate the fact that I'm perceived as being unmotivated or just lazy. Luckily, I don't have to explain myself and I don't need to talk about negativity or the past. I'm moving forward with my life and I can't wait to talk about the plans I have for 2014 with some very prominent people. I only have 1 life to live, and from this moment forward I'm doing me, and doing what I love to do. I am an entertainer, an artist, and an entrepreneur. Even though no one else but God & I know it. I have seen SO MANY people's true colors. It's funny how when you're at a high point people are right there with you but as soon as you drop they disappear. So happy I've seen this first hand so when I start working again, I know who's really for me as a human being. Going into 2014 with a whole new prospective, not a new person because that's so cliche. By next year I will have many experiences, exciting thrills, and accomplishments to talk about but until then with tears dripping on my phone, Happy New Year and may God lead you to your destiny and perfect path in his timing. Look out for Paris Monroe... The solo artist!

As we come to the end of 2013 and I look back on everything that I have accomplished in the past several years, it really amazes me how far God has brought me not only as an artist but as a human being. My sister and I have had our ups and downs, our peaks, our struggles, our fun, our doubts, good days, bad days and just all around a crazy life. At the end of the day we will always stick together no matter what obstacle gets thrown our way and love and support one another. These past couple years have been really difficult and yes it may seem like we haven’t done much but if there is one thing I have really learned to be in 2013, it’s to be patient. Patience is a virtue and good things come to those who wait. Paris and I have been waiting a good year to tell everyone that we will not be continuing as a group. It’s not a bad thing at all! We both on the same day came to each other and expressed the same desires in our hearts to become solo artists. We both agreed that it would be for the best and the healthy thing for us to do to grow as individuals and find our own voice in this industry. It’s been hard because we haven’t been able to let anyone know and voice our struggles about what we are going through legally to friends, family and fans, one because we didn’t want to bring anybody down (misery loves company) and two, legally we were obligated to keep our mouths shut. We have really isolated ourselves from anything and anyone because we have been burned so many times by the ones who we thought we could put our trust in and confide in, even family members and people who we have been friends with for a very very long time. God has definitely lifted the veil off of my eyes to help me see who is really for me and who’s really against me. I’ve always been one to believe the best in people but after going through what my sister and I have been through for the past couple years, it’s really hard to let anybody in. I felt the need to share this with friends, family and our ever so faithful fans who have been with us since the beginning of our careers. I am letting you in and having faith and hope that you will support and be for me as I will be for you. So with that said, I am looking forward to this New Year and the future Destinee Monroe. Where I'm going to be, what I’m going to do, how I will grow, laugh, love, succeed and just let the purpose that I know I am called for flourish and be everything that I know it will be and more. I’m so grateful for the team that God is building around me that shares my same vision, to allow me to be who I was called to be and not an industry puppet. I promise you, it will be worth the wait. Wishing all of you a happy New Year and that all of your dreams and desires get fulfilled to the fullest. Now let’s do this #2014!

Much love, Destinee

Destinee and Paris - "I Used To Have An Eating Disorder" - Paris!

at 5:27 PM 0 comments
@monroegirl: At first I was too embarrassed to share this... but the more I think about it, it's not embarrassing. It's empowering. I have achieved so much in the past year. People probably think because I live in LA that I have an eating disorder or that I'm too thin, or that because I'm so "Hollywood" that I have the availability to magical trainers or that I just don't eat period. The truth is, is that I used to have an eating disorder, 25 pounds heavier and so unhappy! You can say that I looked at a "healthy" weight but that's just not true. I was so out of shape and even had a diabetes scare once and just had the worst relationship with food. I would honestly just gorge myself with the typical American bad eating... It's not healthy. I feel comfortable and confident in my weight now and it's really not even about weight it's about being lean, toned, and in shape, and actually being able to run up stairs and not being out of breath just from walking up a flight. I am so happy. Happier than I've ever been and I'm not posting this to brag, I'm posting this to reveal the truth about weight and being "healthy" and trying to empower people to make wise choices and change their lifestyle. Yes I love sugar and treats! Who doesn't? But now I've learned to not revolve my whole life around it, and actually be able to treat myself and not feel guilty about it because I KNOW that I earned it and worked hard for it. Eat Clean, Get Moving, and stop the excuses. I had every excuse in the book. I'm not saying I was fat before... I'm saying that I was uncomfortable for my petite frame and wanted to feel & look my best. Ever since my transformation I feel so confident trying on ANYTHING when I shop. It feels incredible and I've probably added years to my life. This isn't about being vein it's about treating your body with respect and honoring what God gave you, you only get 1 body. Treat it right and it will thank you ;) thanks for reading loversss! I feel so free.
